OBJECTIVE

  • To provide participants with basic knowledge and skills to work in the concrete industry.

PREREQUISITES
Key attributes for people entering this field are stamina, spatial perception and hand-eye coordination. Attention to detail and Grade 10 math are a necessity. Some physical activities of this field include heavy lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and reaching. Participants will be expected to supply their own hard hats, hi-viz vests, safety boots and rubber boots.

  • Conveying of concrete
  • Curing and protecting concrete
  • Identify and use concrete hand tools
  • Prepare subgrade for concrete slab
  • Set and build slab forms
  • Reinforcement
  • Control joints
  • Estimate concrete volume
  • Place, consolidate and finish concrete slab

LENGTH OF COURSE
160 hours (4 weeks)

CERTIFICATE
Upon completion of this course, participants will receive a Concrete Specialist Level 1 certificate
